Methods to Monitor Behavior

Once you determine the student feedback that will be most effective in the Behavior Management Plan, develop a schedule for monitoring the behavior. For younger children this may need to be on a daily or even class period basis with visual techniques like desk charts and flower charts. For older children weekly self assessments may be sufficient.

The teacher may also keep separate checklists and notes that are not shown to the student for personal reference. This summary can be helpful in communicating progress with parents and therapists.

In the Sample Behavior Management Plan, four methods for monitoring CW's behavior are chosen:

1. Behavior will be monitored on a daily basis.

2. Tally charts using a desk chart form will be recorded by the child and collected each day and discussed.

3. Behavioral interventions will be monitored through teacher checklists, observations, and anecdotal notes.

4. Information will be summarized on a weekly basis.
